Give a guy 5.1 speakers and he forgets to post
It's been quite a while.
The couch is here. It came on the hottest day in forever at my house, a legitimate 106° F in a town where more than 95° F is unheard of. I felt sorry for the mover-dudes and gave them a bottle of cold water each before they had to cart that thing up the stairs. It's nice. Real nice. It's so nice that I'm getting ever fatter sitting on my ass on it so much.
The surround speakers are also installed. I went ahead and paid BestBuy $99 a speaker so that I didn't have to spend the day in the hot attic. It was worth it. I have wall-plate behind the TV with banana jacks for a nice clean look. The 8" in-ceiling speakers also look nice and discreet, and sound very good.
I also added the HD-DVD drive add-on to my Xbox360. The picture is good, but not OMG good. I think hi-def optical is going to go the way of SACD/DVD-A because it's not enough of a step up from DVD, particulary on cheap-ass uncalibrated 42" WalMart specials, which will be the most common type of display in the home of "Joe Six-Pack" when we finally get decent "hi-def penetration" numbers out there. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it and can see a difference on my 60" display that de-interlaces 1080i properly, but for most people.....I don't think so. If you are sitting 15 feet away from a 42" display you aren't going to notice much difference. Sorry to say it, but I believe it's true.
Maybe I'll post more ofter for a little while.
