ESPN NFL 2k5 League Details
I love video football. I hope there are 7 other people out there that do, too. I worry that it is too late for football league. But I'll give it a try.
All rules are negotiable by the 8 owners. Here are the basics:
Each owner registers their favotite team. This needs to really be your favorite team. No picking the Patriots juts because they are strong. You will know, so do it right. I am a Charger fan. I will pick the Chargers even though they are juts about the worst freaking team in this game.
Hopefully this league lasts multiple seasons. The goal is to rotate through the owners with each one getting to pick "their team" for a season, and everyone else having to pick a roughly equal strength team for that season. Since I am creating the league I get to go first. "Roughly equal" is hard to define. I was going go with "equal or lesser rated" team, but there I think there is only one of those less than the Chargers. So I think we should decide what the 8 worst teams in the game are, and everybody has to pick one of those.
If you didn't get to pick your team to start the season and your team is within the "roughly equal" range, you get to be your team! If two people have the same team, they should alternate. I was going to go with an 8 week season so that season's could get done quick and everybody would get a chance to play as their team.
Those are the biggies. As for house rules: I think playing sim, no onsides kicks unless you are down late in the game, no manually moving the d-line, no hiking the ball while a man is in motion, no running with the QB 25 times a game unless you are Atlanta, and no subbing except via the depth chart are a good start. I also think injuries should be OFF and no trades are good options for short seasons where we are trying to get to know out teams.
The league is to play games and have fun. Don't be afraid to get stuck with a crappy team where you might not win. The teams should be close in strength, but we all know the ratings don't tell the whole story. But it isn't a big deal.
We need to all commit to play the games. I will be a Richard Head and assign losses instead of stretching a week out to a month. Hopefully we don't have to do that. I would like all owners to commit to playing one game a week, with a further commitment to play games on Tuesday through Thursday evenings. Yes, life does interfere with gaming and this might not be possible every single week. But we should shoot for it. If you work Tues-Thurs evenings, then this isn't the league for you. If something comes up and someone can't play at those times, then I would like all of us to do wahtever we can to get the game in on the weekend. If it turns out that you can't get your game played on a given week, then let me know and take the forfeit loss. Shit happens and life calls. Take a loss and let's all have fun. Perfect records aren't worth much in the real world, so lets concentrate on fun.
